Zirconia vs Porcelain Crowns: What You Need to Know

When receiving dental crowns for functional restoration or aesthetic enhancement, the material you choose defines the longevity and look of your tooth. The two most popular choices at Hello Dental are standard Porcelain (PFM) and Solid Zirconia (All-Ceramic).

Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal (PFM)

Traditionally, a metal base was used for strength, overlaid with a porcelain aesthetic layer. While durable and cost-effective, PFM crowns can cause a "gray line" at the gums over time as tissues recede, compromising aesthetics.

The Zirconia Revolution

Zirconia is a highly advanced ceramic material boasting the strength of metal but the translucency of natural teeth. It is 100% biocompatible, meaning absolutely no allergic reactions or gray lines. It also resists staining far better than older composites.

At Hello Dental, we fabricate premium Zirconia crowns in-house using digital CAD/CAM technology. This translates to a perfect fit, stunning aesthetics, and crowns that can literally last a lifetime. Given the severe cost savings in Vietnam, upgrading to full Zirconia is highly recommended for our international guests.
