The Complete Guide to Dental Bone Grafting Before Implants

When a tooth is lost, the jawbone underneath naturally begins to atrophy and shrink. If you wait too long to get an implant, there simply won't be enough bone mass to anchor the titanium screw. This is where Bone Grafting comes in.

What is a Bone Graft?

A bone graft involves placing specialized bone material (either synthetic, bovine, or human donor) into the socket. This material acts as a scaffold, encouraging your body's own osteoblasts to grow new, healthy bone around it.

The Timeline

If the bone loss is minor, the graft can often be placed simultaneously with the implant. However, for significant sinus lifts or severe atrophy, the graft must heal for 4 to 6 months before the implant can be safely embedded. When organizing a dental tourism trip, we will identify if you need a graft via your initial CBCT scan, helping you correctly plan your flights.
